Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Title: Shatter Me
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Publisher: Harper
Publication Date: November 15, 2011

Summary: Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting asThe Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

Review: Shatter Me is stunning. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. Shatter Me dominated my world the few days that I read it.

I finished Shatter Me last night and I just can't stop thinking about how utterly refreshing everything about it was.

The writing. Mafi's writing is beyond gorgeous. It's almost perfection. Juliette's scribbled out lines, her somewhat incorrect thoughts, by incorrect I mean grammatically, made her just seem more real, more human.

Juliette was an astounding character. I instantly felt her pain, her fury, her love. I felt like I knew Juliette, she was written so well.

The rest of the things that make Shatter Me amazing are Adam and the X-Men type powers. I'll save my favorite one for last.

Juliette possesses the power to kill people with her touch. It was awesome. There's nothing I like more than a book where a character has some sort of unique power but isn't sure if it's good....or bad. Lots of interesting things happen to Juliette because of her power.

Oh Adam. I could use a lot more Adam. This boy rivals some of my favorite leading men of all time. He's sweet, caring, compassionate. He's pretty much the ultimate hunk. I can't wait to see more of him and Juliette together. Their romance is amazing.

If you haven't read Shatter Me, you need to do so now. If you don't you are missing out on a spectacular book. I know I'm glad I didn't wait to read it!
