Summary: Humanity is all but extinguished after a war with partials--engineered organic beings identical to humans--has decimated the world’s population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island. The threat of the partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to the disease in over a decade. Humanity’s time is running out.
When sixteen-year-old Kira learns of her best friend’s pregnancy, she’s determined to find a solution. Then one rash decision forces Kira to flee her community with the unlikeliest of allies. As she tries desperately to save what is left of her race, she discovers that the survival of both humans and partials rests in her attempts to answer questions of the war’s origin that she never knew to ask.
Combining the fast-paced action of The Hunger Games with the provocative themes of Battlestar Galactica, Partials is a pulse-pounding journey into a world where the very concept of what it means to be human is in question--one where our sense of humanity is both our greatest liability, and our only hope for survival.
Review: Partials is not a book that I was expecting to love. It crept up on me and I instantly fell in love with it. If you're looking for something new, Partials is the book for you!
Partials is just about 30 pages shy of being 500 pages but it's paced perfectly. There was never a moment where I wanted to stop reading because it was boring or slow. The only moments I wanted to stop reading was when it got so intense, and I didn't stop even then because it was so good. There's just something about Partials that makes you want to keep reading and reading. It's nothing of short of addictive.
One of the reasons Partials is so addictive is because of the characters. Kira is such a strong girl. Any person who wants to find a cure to save the human race is a favorite of mine. She was just so amazing. Not to mention well-written. I'm still very curious about Kira and many of the other characters as well. They were all so unique and complex. I just felt this really emotional bond with all of them.
There's even more in Partials then great characters and a wonderful pace. There's the actual Partials, "crazy" killing machines that were created plus, there's also an even crazier Senate. All of this makes for one intense, action-paced book. I'm not going to elaborate tons on the mentioned Partial and the Senate, you just have to experience them for yourselves.
When you get around to reading Partials, because I know you will, savor it. To me, the wait for the next one is going to be killer. I really don't want to leave this messed up world filled with Kira and her gang or the "crazy" Partials that I love.

Gah! I'm dying to read this book. My library hasn't gotten it in yet, so I may have to go ahead and order a copy. :) So glad you enjoyed it!
LOVED this book and I wasn't expecting to, either! When I first picked it up, I was thinking it would be just another good post-apocalyptic story. You're right--it totally sneaks up on you and then you can't put it down because you're invested!
New favorite book? Well! I definitely need to pick this one up, then, don't I? Fantastic review, Katie! Now I'm dying for Partials! :)
I admired the main character Kira. Despite her young age, she is determined and resourceful. She is willing to think outside the current parameters on the plague and society and seek new answers. Her persistence to find a cure is admirable. Kira is a courageous, young heroine that will inspire you, despite the fact that everywhere she turns it is fraught with danger. Will the Voice attack and destroy the city, or are the rebels under the Senate's control, in order for them to scare the population into servility? Are the Partials the menacing creatures they thought they were? These are just a few of the tough issues that face Kira, along with her frantic research to uncover a cure.
